A LOCAL GUIDE TO Owasso, Texas

Owasso was originally settled in 1881 and incorporated in 1904 just before Oklahoma gained statehood. It grew around a railroad line from the Kansas, Oklahoma Central & Southwestern Railway Company and has since grown into the main northern suburb of nearby Tulsa.

Much of the history of Owasso is built around its railway connection between Kansas and Tulsa. When founded, it was located in the Cooweescoowee District of the Cherokee Nation. The main railroad line was completed in 1899 and greatly helped the development of the area. After originally being named Elm Creek, the town was officially named Owasso on January 24, 1900. Eventually the line was extended to Tulsa in 1905 and the city slowly grew as a suburb over time.

The two main highways connecting Owasso to Tulsa 12 miles way are U.S. Route 169 and U.S. Route 75. These north/south highways allow for easy access to the city. Tulsa International Airport is also located between Owasso and Tulsa, offering connections to 21 different cities around the United States.

There is an emerging restaurant scene located in the Red Bud District, which has several local businesses and restaurants. Just a Bite bakery offers freshly made baked goods each day. Giant Subs deli is a local sandwich shop specializing in lunch options. Several residents also rave about the Drip Beverage Lab, a specialty coffee shop offering great coffee and delicious treats.

The Philbrook Museum of Art is an art museum with expansive formal gardens and several art and photography exhibits. Also for the art-inclined the Gilcrease Museum, featuring a collection of artwork from the American West. The Tulsa Zoo also has more than 1,500 animals and is involved in numerous conservation efforts.
